Academic Council
The Academic Council is the highest academic body of the institute and is responsible for the maintenance of standards of instruction, education, and examination within the university. It has the right to advise the various academic schools on all academic matters.
Functions of Academic Council
- To consider matters of academic interest either on its own initiative or at the instance of the Board of Management or those proposed by the departments / faculties and to take proper action thereon
- To exercise general supervision over the academic work of the institution and to give direction regarding methods of instruction, evaluation, and improvements in academic standards
- To promote research within the institution, acquire reports on such researches from time to time
- To maintain proper standards of the examinations
- To make arrangements for the conduct of examinations in conformity of rules and regulations
- to take a periodical review of the activities of the departments or centres and to take appropriate action to maintain and improve the standards of instruction;
- to recommend institution of teaching posts (Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors) to the management;
- Meeting of the Academic Council
- The Academic Council shall meet as often as necessary but not less than four times (at least two times in a semester) during an academic year with no less than seven days’ prior notice being given before every meeting of the Academic Council, and emergency meetings may be convened by giving short notice for reasons to be recorded in writing for such emergency meetings.
- One-third of the total number of members of the Academic Council shall constitute the quorum for the meeting of the Academic Council.
- Each member, including its chairperson, shall have one vote, and decisions at the meetings of the Academic Council shall be taken by simple majority, and in case of a tie, the chairperson shall have a casting vote.
- Any business that may be necessary for the Academic Council to perform, which may be urgent in nature, may be carried out by circulation amongst its members.
Composition | 1. The principal (Chairman) 2. All the Heads of Departments in the college 3. Four teachers of the college representing different categories of teaching staff by rotation on the basis of seniority of service in the college. 4. Not less than four experts/academicians from outside the college representing such areas as industry, commerce, law, education, medicine, engineering, sciences, etc., are to be nominated by the Governing Body. 5. Three nominees of the other institute, not less than professors. A faculty member nominated by the principal (Member Secretary)

Chairperson of the Meeting | The principal, if present, shall preside at all meetings of the Academic Council. If the principal is unable to attend, the vice principal shall chair the meeting. For any reason in his absence, the Academic Council shall choose a member from among the members of the Academic Council to preside over the meeting.

Quorum | One third of the total number of members of the Academic Council, including the Chairperson, shall form the quorum for any meeting of the Academic Council.

Notice of the Meeting: | The Principal Office shall, under the direction of the principal, give not less than fifteen days’ notice of the date of the meeting |
Dispatch of Final Agenda Paper | The PO shall prepare, under the direction of the principal, a final agenda paper and shall send a copy of it to each member of the Academic Council within not less than four days before the date of the meeting |
Seating of Members: | The members shall sit in such order as the principal may appoint. |
Powers of Chairperson to Maintain Order: | The Chairperson may, by a special motion approved in this behalf by the majority of the members present at the meeting, direct any member whose conduct is grossly disorderly to withdraw immediately from the meeting, and any member so ordered to withdraw shall do so forthwith and absent himself/herself during the remainder of the day’s meeting.

Powers of the Chairperson to Suspend or Adjourn Sittings:
| The Chairperson may, in the case of grave disorder arising at a meeting, suspend or adjourn the meeting for a time to be specified by him/her.

Minutes:
| The minutes of all proceedings of each meeting of the Academic Council shall be recorded by the PO and signed by the Chairperson of the meeting. The PO shall, under the direction of the principal, send, within two weeks after a meeting, a copy of the minutes of that meeting duly attested by him to each member of the Academic Council.

Attendance Register at meetings:
| Members of the Academic Council attending a meeting shall sign a register kept for the purpose before they occupy their places at the meeting.
